Workshop Experience at Monte
The workshops we hold in Monte are not just a program where we impart technical knowledge; they are a special shared space that offers the opportunity to experience the porcelain production process in all its stages.
In this program, held in our workshop located among olive trees in Türközü Village, Ayvalık, you will experience firsthand the entire process of creating a porcelain object, from the initial idea to its final form emerging from the kiln.
These meetings are held only a few times a year, and each program is limited to a maximum of four people. This allows us to dedicate individual time to each participant and explain the production process in detail.
Plaster Mold Workshop
Every porcelain form begins with a carefully prepared mold.
In this section:
You will be introduced to plaster and mold-making materials.
You will learn the principles and techniques of mold making.
You will create a one-piece plaster mold.
This stage provides an understanding of the precise and systematic process that forms the foundation of porcelain production.
Porcelain Casting and Bisque Workshop
Once the mold is prepared, the porcelain begins to take shape.
In this section:
You will learn about the properties of porcelain slip.
You will prepare the porcelain slip for casting.
You will experience the slip-casting process.
You will observe how the piece is removed from the mold.
You will carry out retouching and surface-finishing processes.
You will learn about and follow the first firing, known as the bisque firing.
Seeing the first pieces emerge from the kiln is one of the most exciting moments of the experience.
Glaze Workshop
The final character of porcelain is revealed through the glaze.
In this section:
You will learn about the raw materials and fundamental principles of glaze preparation.
You will prepare the glaze.
You will apply the glaze and carry out the necessary cleaning and finishing processes.
You will learn about glaze firing.
You will observe how the kiln is loaded and how the firing process is managed.
After the final firing, the porcelain takes on its finished appearance, revealing the result of every stage and all the care invested in its creation.
